What is Moissanite?

Moissanite was first discovered in 1893 by scientist Henri Moissan in a meteor crater. Natural Moissanite is extremely rare, so almost all Moissanite available today is lab-created. It is made of silicon carbide (SiC). On the Mohs hardness scale, it ranks 9.25–9.5, making it the second hardest gemstone after diamond.
